Where
are the strings ? and the TOM ? and the Stop-Bar?.

A vintage wire can
be seen replacing a multistranded cable of low diameter.

On this picture the rubber
springs I
added to raise the pickups

The truth about
Epiphone bodies?
Two massive pieces of
wood or sandwich?
Thin or thick carved
top?
|
|

Even if it's
inacurate I choose Reflector knobs for their nice look.

I replaced the Epi stock
pickguard support with Schaller pickguard support bracket of better
quality than (Cost $ 4). I also tried a nickeled support but I kept this
chromed one which seems smarter. After many investigations I also changed
the pickguard for a WDguitar one ($ 9) the stock pickguard having a little defect.

Wiring cavity . I
first changed pots with Stewmac (short shafts ones) but eventualy I
prefered to install CTS pots and utilized vintage cable from GreggRogers.
The wiring mode is the '50 one. A real difference can be heard. The caps
are no more between the PU and the volume pot but between the volume and
the output with a larger panel of tuning which improve an already
notorious efficient P90 tone control. I replaced capacitors with high
quality Hovland MusiCaps (cost $ 20).

Do not forget to add
heat shrink tubing on the coax which comes from the switch to the jack.
A larger plate with an improved Switchcraft jack can be seen on this
picture. I filled the original holes with toothpick and glue before
drilling new holes the plate being wider.

Wiring diagram. (double
click for zooming) The stock Epiphone Switch cable has been replaced with
stronger vintage Style Gibson wire with braided shield (Cost $ 3.50 pour 4
feet ).I initially tried 250Ko pots to strengthen the low frequencies but
this modification made the sound too fat, and I came back to 500 Ko pots.
The same thing for the capacitors where I mounted .022µF after trying
.047µF.

Be
careful the wiring is quite different beetween Epiphone and
Switchcraft toggle switches.
Graphite paint must be remove from the cavity,
the Switchcraft switch beeing larger than the Epi one. |
